What Cabins Are Made For - MountBain Cabin

If you thought it was fun being a kid, pack your bags and head to a cabin for the weekend. Adulting might just win.

For some reason cabins always make the child-like spirit in us come alive. And we absolutely love it. Mainly because we get to live out all the joys of being a child, except we’re adults and we get to make the rules, if any apply.

Sleeping at Mount Bain Cabin felt like you just built the most epic fort with your bestie and now you get to spend the night in it. The futon bed and bedside lanterns are everything sleepover dreams are made of, and the comfort is not compromised. Every minute here feels simple and slow. From waking up at sunrise and making a pancake breakfast in the cutest little kitchen, we loved getting to experience living in the mountains from this little cabin.

We can’t say that we’ve literally bathed in the mountains before this, but the bath here will give you a new experience. And it’s worth getting adding to your memories.

What We Loved:

  • The cabin opens up to such beautiful views. Yes, wake up for sunrise and wait to watch sunset too.

  • The kitchen is fully equipped with added extras that make you want to cook. We made pancakes one morning and loved setting the table with all the dinnerware.

  • The bedroom is such a fun build.

  • The lanterns and board games were fun touches that made the stay feel cosy.

  • Okay, this bath has got to be placed in one of the most incredible spaces. It is literally in the mountains overlooking more mountains.

Tips / Recommendations:

  • Take Bainskloof pass to drive through - it is INCREDIBLE.

  • Once you’ve arrived at the property you do need a 4x4 to access the cabin. We just parked at the bottom and walked the 150m. It wasn’t bad at all but a 4x4 would’ve made it easier. They do offer to drive you up if you don’t have a 4x4 so it’s not too much of a worry.

  • The dam for supping and swimming is a bit of a drive away. It’ll take you about 5-10 minutes, which isn’t too bad if it’s a hot day and they do provide floaties and the boards so it could be worth it.

  • The bath is beautiful, but it will take a while to fill up and be warm. Commit to the process though, it’s worth it.
