Garden Route Game Lodge

Under a blanket of stars lies an endless landscape of animals showing off a glimpse of what it’s like to exist beyond the city life. The wild awakes both beauty and curiosity.

This was actually a super last-minute decision and stop. We were on our way back home from celebrating our 4 year wedding anniversary when we stumbled upon the idea to do a safari visit at the Garden Route Game Lodge. And honestly, it was the best way to end the celebration. Pretty night sky views, amazing food and obviously the big 5 - yup we saw it all. This 4-star safari experience is something we’re so glad we decided to include on our Garden Route trip.

What We Loved:

  • The food was amazing. They set it up as a 3 course eat as much as you like menu. Think steaks to fried camembert with berry compote. The quality of the food was really great for both dinner and breakfast. It includes lots of familiar favourites and unique creations.

  • The guides are so friendly and passionate and have a genuine love for wildlife, which comes across in their unique explanations. It’s also amazing how they’ve rescued and cared for so many of the animals.

  • The facilities are so beautiful. It’s simple but perfect. there’s so much activity around the place including a beautiful pool, board games in entertainment rooms and the most beautiful night sky views. Every chalet also has a balcony.

  • The safari drives are about 2-hours but in that time you so much. We saw the full big 5 over a sunset and sunrise drive.

Tips / Recommendations:

  • Even though check out seems early they do allow you to stay and use the facilities. We spent the afternoon in the pool and it was totally worth not rushing out, especially if you’re only staying for 1 night.

  • It is about 4 hours out of Cape Town so we’d recommend either doing a 2-night stay or including it in a trip along the Garden Route.

  • Make your decision based on their website photos. Their Instagram doesn’t show off half of the facilities and what it has to offer. The morning coffee deck, the intimate dinner setting and a very cool boma area.

  • They often run quite a few specials which is total value for money.
