Treehouse Living in Swellendam

To the sweet days spent recreating the childhood dream of having our own treehouse. Except the only thing better is that this time you’re an adult and you can actually live in it for a few days.

In the middle of winter, we took a little trip out to Swellendam and spent a few days out at Eco Treehouse. With the mountains still covered in snow, the wooden treehouse made for the cosiest little getaway. We loved waking up a little too late and spending the morning making breakfast, and dinner too actually, over the fire. The days felt so slow, in a good way, and we soaked up the beautiful views while reading and playing board games. We spent a good 4 days out on the farm and split our time either lazing around or checking out the neighbouring farm’s activities.

We definitely love hotel stays, but this off the grid solar powered treehouse was just so nostalgic and different. And we loved that.

What We Loved:

  • Who doesn’t want to stay in a treehouse. And a cute one at that.

  • It was really nostalgic from the setup and layout to the cute games they provided.

  • The treehouse comes with everything you need and more. The kitchen is fully equipped with added extras and there’s plenty of entertainment, books and games.

  • The views are so beautiful. Swellendam is filled with some of the best mountain views and ranges.

  • It’s a fun drive out without being too close or too far from Cape Town.

Tips / Recommendations:

  • If you’re looking for something secluded, it wouldn’t be our first choice. The families private house is only a few meters away. They do have kids who play are generally around and playing outside. The family is super nice and friendly though. On the photos, it does seem more secluded, but just to note that it isn’t. If you don’t mind that it’s the perfect little treehouse getaway.

  • The sauna and hot tub do come at an additional cost. It is charged per session.

  • There is quite a bit of everyday life on the farm. We had a guy cutting the lawn for both days we were there.

  • While you’re here take a day trip out to hike one of the trails at Marloth Nature Reserve. We walked the Duiwelsbos Trail, which was quite easy and short. It led to an amazing waterfall. Be sure to get your tickets online via Cape Nature before heading out.
